Geocache Description:

Start your hike from the parking lot at position N59 50.803 E010 20.453. The trip to the destination is approx. 2km and will take about 25-30min. The path towards “Myggheim” is suitable for bikes, baby carriages and “sporty” wheelchair users. The last 60m before the cache can be a bit difficult for wheelchair users.

This cache is close to the spot of one of the biggest air accident in the Norwegian history where 40 out of 45 people lost their lives 23 December 1972. The plane “Snorre Sigurdsson” a Fokker Fellow ship on the journey from Vigra in Ålesund with destination Fornebu kept a too low altitude, and hit the ground only 250m from the mountain pasture “Myggheim”. The plane held the correct track to Fornebu, but because of the fog the altitude was 500m below the recommend track. At 16:33 the Fornebu airport lost contact with the airplane, and the tragedy was a fact. Lots of voluntaries participated in the search for the airplane, including local people from Asker orienteering team, but it took 6h before the first survivors were found. A team of voluntaries, led by a local pilot from Sylling was the first ones to find the crash site. At that time there were 7 survivors, but unfortunately, one lost his life during the transport to the hospital and, unfortunately a second one lost his life on 25 December (only two days later). At the coordinates N59 51.944 E010 20.334 you will find a memorial column. If you find any pieces of the airplane wreckage, please leave it as it is. In memory and respect to all of the surviving relatives and their loved ones, I hereby dedicate this cache to them. “Myggheim” is a beautiful place to take a rest. Almost all paths in the “Solli” area will guide you here. This is one of the few elder mountain pastures left in Asker. The path from the parking lot mentioned above is suitable for all, small children as well as old-timers. During the winter season, many inhabitants from Asker and Bærum use this area to practice cross-country skiing. Many small children have had their first steps here. At one of the pictures attached to this cache, you can find a dipstick, used to measure the snow dept. It’s not unusual that the snow depth can exceed 2m in this area. In the following caches that I'm going to hide, I'll put a egg cup in the treasure. If you are the first one to reach my future caches, you can collect them all! (See the picture "Egg cups collection"!)
