Redland Station, Shady Grove Woods, and Mill Creek South, the three neighborhoods composing this little island in the middle of the ICC and Shady Grove Rd, were constructed out of old farmland back in the 1970s and 80s. When the ICC was later constructed in the 2010s, this slice of land realized its current destiny of becoming a storm water basin for water from the Town of Washington Grove draining into Mill Creek. While this area normally is dry, it certainly is anything but after a DMV-classic 3pm afternoon torrential downpour.
This cache is placed in the public right of way for Briardale Rd and this storm water basin. The cache is not in the basin, so it can be accessed even during rainfall (which fittingly happened the day this cache was published).
