Geocache Description:

In 1876 the Pacific Coast Steamship Company built track from Harford Wharf in Avila Beach to San Luis Obispo which provided passenger and freight railway service to and from the steamship company's docks. In 1882 the Oregon Improvement Company merged with the Pacific Coast Steamship Company and the Pacific Coast Railway was born. The rails were extended to Edna, Arroyo Grande, Nipomo and reached Santa Maria and Orcutt that year. The railway was ultimately extended through Graciosa, Bicknell, Los Alamos and terminated in Los Olivos.

The Pacific Coast Railway operated from 1882 to 1941; providing passenger, agricultural and industrial service and was instrumental in the development of the Central Coast area.

This monument marks the former railway right-of-way thru Orcutt and was erected by the Orcutt Lions Club in 1982 and re-dedicated in 2019.

The cache is easily accessible; please DO bring your own writing instrument and replace exactly as found. It can get busy here so please utilize your stealthy skills!

Hope You Enjoy and Have Fun!
