Survival is increasingly uncertain for the awe-inspiring Southern Resident killer whale, also known as the orca. For years, pressures on these icons of the Pacific Coast have been increasing. Today, only 74 of these endangered animals remain.The good news is that two calves were born in both 2019 and 2020 and were still alive as of October 2020. Orcas are residents of the Salish Sea and are often observed from shore in Victoria and the Gulf Islands.
