Geocache Description:

I love to quilt! And sometimes Mr QuiltinAnnie helps with the design; figuring out the angles and measurements! This letterbox series will highlight a traditional quilt block or pattern beginning with the letter of the stamp found inside the cache. You will need to supply your own stamp pad.

Queen Charlotte's Crown

The quilt block pattern, Queen Charlotte's Crown, was given the name by Ruth Finley in her 1929 book. Apparently, Mrs. Ruth Finley's book (published in 1929) sites the nine-patch block as prior to 1770 and originating in Virginia (with no other specific location) honouring Queen Charlotte (who ruled 1761 till her death in 1818).

The block shows two crowns, can you see them?

In the migration of this pattern to Kentucky the name was changed to "Indian Meadow", and became a very popular pattern there as well as in Virginia.

This five patch quilt block is comprised solely of squares and half square triangles so it is an easy block to construct as an uneven nine patch.
