I have tried in vain to determine the history behind the name Frankfield. The name is used on the first map of the area published in 1795 but there is no evidence that it was named after a land owner. One of the information boards suggests the landowner named the area after Frankfield in Jamaica where he made his fortune. My guess is that long, long ago, there was a bloke named Frank who came up here regularly to admire the view of the Campsies and it became known as Frank's Field.
Please post your ideas on the name in your log along with photos of the view.
