The GAGB and HQ have been informed by Forestry England that certain caches within the New Forest will need to be disabled. This is due to the respective areas now being considered fragile to wildlife/plantlife and FE wishing to restrict (where possible) access to these locations.

You have the option to relocate the cache (and apply for new permission in the new location) or archiving the cache and removing the container to prevent it becoming litter.

I have disabled this listing whilst you decide how you wish to proceed with this cache.

I am in the process of obtaining maps of the restricted areas.

Geocache Description:


Not far from Ashurst campsite but still feels a bit out of the way with calming views over the heather landscape. An easy walk to get to in dry weather. In wet weather expect some flooding and bring wellies, but in that case its great fun to do with the children.

When you reach the coordinates you should see a tree with a massive cancer burl ("big belly") around waist height. Its not that tree but you are very close.. :)

Please keep to New Forest byelaws, respect the trees and vegetation, and let the ponies be at peace. Please don't use or park on the road to Wessex Institutes as its private.

The cache is placed in accordance with the GAGB New Forest guidelines. Please note there is no night caching allowed in the New Forest.
