It is not clear who Fritz was but as this is a crossroads, it could possibly be the grave of a criminal or suicide as it was at these locations they were buried. Some locals say there was a burial at the crossroads & the person was called Furzes, as opposed to Fritz. Others say that Fritz was a tramp who once lived in a shelter at the crossroads & when he died his wish was to be buried at the site where he lived.
