Geocache Description:

The Story

Kruippoort, which translates as 'Crawling Passage' probably relates to the slow speed of the original road. It's an easy tarred drive traversing the R62 to the south-west of Ladismith in the Western Cape and forms part of the R62 route. The road is wide and safe and only has two gentle bends, but once inside the poort the poort hems the road in and provides a scenic, albeit short drive. Most drivers are not even aware that this is an official poort. The poort has very gentle average gradients of 1:267 and follows a typical poort profile.

The Cache

This cache can be found whilst travelling in the direction of Cape Town. It can also be found by parking across the road and safely crossing the road after checking for oncoming traffic.

Route 62, the scenic alternative

Many consider Route 62 as the scenic alternative to the much busier N2 along the coast. Route 62 stretches for more than 500 kilometre from Ashton in the Western Cape to 18 kilometre short of Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape. This cache is part of the series placed on Route 62 to entice people to explore the alternative. So go out and find them all, including the lab cache.
