If you have a pronounced fear of heights, I don’t recommend this geocache, or, at least, take someone with you! You will feel safer and have more fun! Although nothing technically will prevent you from going at night, please search for this cache exclusively during the day!
The main attraction is right next to where the box is hidden! Bring a camera or mobile phone and take as many pictures as you want! Feel free to add your funniest picture to your log.
Coal has been mined in this part of Istria for hundreds of years and you will find a lot of old railways that were part of freight train network, for primarily coal, then less often agricultural products from the valley of the river Raša and Čepić field. Most of these railways are no longer in use.
Construction of this railway began in 1948. It was built by volunteers, youth and German prisoners. Most of the time, it was used exclusively for freight trains and transporting coal, bauxite and other ore to the reloading harbor location of Štalije, Raša and Trget. Passenger traffic was also short-lived in the 1950s. The last freight train passed in 2009. Since then, no trains have run on the track. SO, THERE IS NO CHANCE THAT YOU'LL ENCOUNTER A TRAIN WHILE YOU WALK ON THIS RAILWAY! BE CALM. When you get near the Geocache, it will be clear to you why there are no trains.
About the cause… If you would come to the location after the rainy weather and listen to the sounds from the surroundings, which come from the east, from the Učka mountain, it would be clear to you how this drunken railway was created over the last decades!
