This cemetery founded in 1842 by John Thompson after his wife Lucinda passed away. Originally called Thompson Buring Ground, the name was changed to Ostead Cemetery to reflect its community ties with the Ostead school, post office and stagecoach stop.
Markers indicate interments of departed members of nearly every early neighborhood family.
