Geocache Description:

Geocache Description

Relatively easy walk off of one of Glencarlyn's many trails. You’re looking for a medium size container hidden just off the trail, uphill at the base of a large tree. Please make sure the cache is closed well so that it remains water-resistant.

The cache commemorates the rich history of Glencarlyn Park and includes old photographs of some interesting historical features of the park on the cache page. After checking out the cache, be sure to visit some of the historical sites mentioned, particularly one of the original Carlin's Springs nearby! It's a very nice place to walk around so be sure and bring the dog and/or the kids.

The park is larger than it looks and has many entry points. For a longer walk, the parking lot off of Carlin Springs Road is a nice place to start. You can also park in the Glencarlyn neighborhood, in the park itself, or the Arlington Forest neighborhood at the end of S. Park Road.

Cache History

  • 09/28/19 - Moved the photos to the gallery on the cache page. Maintenance, replaced container with a more water resistant container.
  • 09/17/17 - Replaced the leaky old container with a more water resistant container.
  • 01/28/17- Moved to a new location and a better hiding spot slightly uphill.
  • 10/23/15 - Rebuilt at a new location. The tree it used to be under disintegrated. I added several new photos a little more recent history.
  • 10/24/11 - Mystery Solved! Back in March 2010 no one was able to find the cache, including myself, so I thought it was lost and built a new one. Apparently not! For the past year and a half, there have been two caches - one I was maintaining and the waterlogged one I thought was lost. I found the old one this evening and have removed it. Sorry for the confusion.
  • 10/22/11 - Maintenance. Still getting complaints about the cache getting wet so I've put it a new container as well as replaced the contents and the pad.
  • 9/5/11 - Maintenance. Cleaned up and replaced pad.
  • 3/8/10 - Rebuilt at a new location.
  • 5/5/08 - Moved to a new, new location.
  • 5/1/08 - Rebuilt at a new location.
  • 8/12/06 - Maintenance. Cleaned up and replaced pad.
  • 1/3/04 - Rebuilt at a new location because it was washed away during Hurricane Isabelle.
  • 11/17/02 - Moved to a location closer to one of the historical sites. I also think it is a little better hidden, though the general area is still well exposed.
