Scouting the Past was created by a partnership between the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and the Carroll County Farm Museum. As well as being a geocache for the general public, it also is part of the Geocacher badge program for Junior Girl Scouts at the Farm Museum. The cache may be hard to find for some, but in reality it hides in plain sight.
The Farm Museum hours vary by season. Please call 410-386-3880 or visit www.carrollcountyfarmmuseum.org for more information about hours and fees, you will need to pay admission to find this cache. Visitors to the Farm Museum can tour the Almshouse, Blacksmith's Shop, and Living History Center among other buildings and displays. They can also experience hands-on activities with historical objects in the Children's Touch Room. Visitors can also see the animals on display from Mid-April through October in the Farmyard Friends Exhibit. There are many animals at the Farm Museum including the Red Devon Oxen Jack and Jim. The barns and outbuildings highlight the importance of agriculture in Maryland's history.
Scouting the Past is a simple multi-cache that will take you to visit two of the Farm Museum's historic buildings before leading you to the final physical cache. Hopefully you will learn a thing or two along the way!
The location for the start of this geocache is N 39° 33.549' W 76° 59.783' also known as the Hoff Barn. To find the next location you will need to learn about the Hoff Barn and answer a few questions. All answers can be found in the Hayloft section of the Hoff Barn.
