The goal of this Geocache is to take you to a Holy Cross that is made of steel and stands about 10 feet high located at the South Jetty at Fort Stevens State Park ( lot c). I came upon this cross while I was hiking the trails around the jetty and was curious about it's orgin. I reached out to Friends of Old Fort Stevens, and they informed me that the cross was placed here by the Army Corps of Engineers several years ago, as a sighting point for a jetty repair project. The fort did however have a chapel at one time, that was located at what is now the historic area, at the time of the forts decomission in 1948, the chapel was cut into 2 peices and loaded onto a barge, and sold to Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Scappoose where it still serves as a chapel today.
The cross is about 80 feet S.E. from the geocache, towards Astoria.
Placed on Christmas 2020 Congratulations to Orange Crash for the {FTF}
