There have been a number of temporary or other churches built in Epping and areas over the years, for some their histories are known:
- the Roman Catholic Church started meeting in 1932 in a wood army hut before moving to the brick built church in 1954
- the Methodist church was originally an iron hut until replaced in the 1890s by the current brick building
but the Gospel Hall on Fairfield Road already existed when the Elim Pentecostal Church purchased it as a move into permanent premises and away from Thornwood Village Hall, with no record as to its origins in British History online That building was sold in 2006 and converted to a private house, but its origins are apparent in the building design. The Elim, now Life, Church meets in Epping Hall and the Box.
St Andrew's Church, North Weald established a mission church in Thornwood, only a few miles away, initially in a tin church opening in 1888, later rebuilt in stone in 1923, but abandoned in 1939. There are snippets suggesting that All Saints' Epping Upland and All Saints' Theydon Garnon were linked to similar initiatives, but without much clarity as to the locations of those buildings.
This cache takes you opposite a fairly dilapidated corrugated iron church hall, the only still existent such building locally.
