This is another one of my favourite places in Kalbarri that was begging for a cache.
Situated just short drive south of Kalbarri, Eagle Gorge in the Kalbarri National Park offers spectacular views of the ocean from the carpark and from the lookout.. Named after the wedge-tailed eagles that live in the gorge, keep an eye out for these magnificent birds that can often be seen in nests and soaring through the sky searching for prey along the cliffs.
Meander down into the gorge for a swim and explore this wild and beautiful landscape on foot. If you can plan your visit for spring, you will be greeted by an abundance of colour as the wildflowers come out in full bloom. The park is famous for its wildflowers and has several species that can only be seen here, namely the Kalbarri Catspaw (similar to Kangaroo Paw) and the Kalbarri Spider Orchid.
You will often see grey kangaroos and various birds as they flit about as well. From June through to September, Eagle Gorge also offers prime viewing for the whales as they migrate up and down the coast.
Visitors can access Eagle Gorge lookout and beach via walk tracks from the carpark. The way down to the beach is a short and steep switchback trail over sandstone terraces. Allow 30 – 45 mins return from the beach. Difficulty is rated at class 3
Please wear proper footwear, a hat and carry at least 1 – 2 litres of water per person if you are going down to the beach as temperatures can get extremely hot during the summer months. Please respect the area by taking away any rubbish.
Accessible all year.
Kalbarri is located six and a half hours drive north of Perth. If you are planning on staying overnight be aware that camping is not permitted in the park, however, plenty of excellent accommodation is available in town.
Cache Info
You are looking for a small container that blends to its surroundings. There is no need to leave the trail and go bush bashing (please respect the foliage) Its within reaching distance. Based on your observations of the number of cars in the carpark, you will have to be very very stealthy, …If there are lot of cars, the likely hood of you retrieving the cache and returning it without being seen from the lookout or the beach path will be nil. If there are no cars, then the find should be easier…(oh but that’s right… its camouflaged..heh heh heh evil snigger!) Be aware of silent muggles looking from above or coming from behind. Please put the cache exaclty back in its place to maintian the diffculty rating and please no hints or photos to give away the hide. You need to bring your own scribble tool
Good luck with the find and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021
Congratulations to Wollaston and Team Outnabout for FTF....
