From the mid 1800’s until the late 1900’s Almonte was home to a busy textile industry. One of the largest mills was below this embankment, on the other side of the river. The water way you see below is actually a manmade diversion from the natural riverbed bringing water to power the mill. Many of the workers lived to the north of the train tracks and a wooden set of stairs were built to shorten their walk to work.
The cache is hidden in a tree near the modern staircase which links the Almonte Riverwalk with the Ottawa Valley Rail Trail. Enjoy your sojourn, cachers!
