To celebrate the new year, the kids and I decided to place a few winter-friendly Park & Grab caches in the areas we frequent.
These marshes are home to a colony of Black Terns, an uncommon species in Ontario and listed as Special Concern on the Species at Risk Act. Watch for dark gull-like birds flapping low over the cattails in May and June. Many other waterfowl also reside here in the summer, including a pair of Trumpeter Swans, a species recovery success story - they were once extirpated from Ontario, and now the provincial population is about 1200 birds.
Wishing you all happy hunting this year!
