Waiohinu means Shiny Water. The free water at the spigot near the cache is considered the best on the island. It comes straight down the mountain. Mark Twain visited Waiʻōhinu in 1866 and, legend has it, planted a monkey tree pod here. The tree blew down in 1957, but a shoot from it was replanted, and remains growing there today. Please be stealth so as not to be seen especially on weekends when people frequent the pavillion.
