Our family celebrates the 12 days of Christmas...December 25-January 6. So we are still baking at our house for the holidays. Our mom always asks us which ones we want to make and we always pick our favorites. This is one that we don't make that often, but my Dad really likes them.
Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup black treacle
- 3 large eggs
- 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 cup chopped walnuts, optional
- 1 cup raisins, optional
Directions
- In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add black treacle. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine dry ingredients and spices; add to batter and mix lightly. Stir in nuts and raisins if desired; mix well.
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes. Remove to wire racks.
