Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Pahrump used to be a farm town.  There weren't any paved roads, and many roads remain unpaved today.  The first paved road from Las Vegas to Pahrump was built in 1954.  And the road to Shoshone, CA wasn't paved until 1956.  Even before it was paved, the road to Shoshone was important to the Pahrump residents.  Shoshone was closer, and easier to get to, than Las Vegas.

Pahrump didn't have an electric utility company until 1963.  The 800 or so residents fired up a generator when they wanted electricity.  Many lived without it.  Once electricity came to town, people wanted to have telephones.  If a Pahrump resident needed to use a telephone before 1965, they had to drive to Shoshone.  The first telephones were installed in Pahrump in 1965.  We know that because the first telephone book had 76 listings.

Pahrump had a two room elementary school by the 1950's.  If a student went on to high school, they had to ride a bus to Shoshone, CA.  Pahrump Valley High School was opened in the fall of 1974.  That Old Shoshone Highway got a lot of miles on it from that bus for over 20 years.

Here's a cache on a section of the Old Shoshone Highway.  To find the coordinates, determine the following numbers:

A = the first paved road from Las Vegas to Pahrump was completed in __ __ A __

B = The first telephone was installed in Pahrump in __ __ B __

C = 4 times the number of rooms of schoolrooms in Pahrump in 1960

X = How many people needed a generator for electricty in 1960?  X __ __

Y = The Pahrump Valley High School opened in __ __ Y __

Z = Add 1 to the middle digit of the number of the NV state highway that goes from Pahrump to Shoshone

Subtract ABC from the posted north coordinates.  Add XYZ to the posted west coordinates.

Congratulations to DeeAnn_nnAeeD for being first to find.
