Au sud, la colline de Valère est couronnée d'une basilique fortifiée encerclée de maisons: le château de Valère. Le château est en fait un bourg médiéval, adossé à son église, dont le clocher est le donjon. Au Moyen-Age, les bâtiments servaient de résidence au Chapitre de la Cathédrale. L'Eglise Notre-Dame de Valère est un harmonieux exemple d'architecture romanogothique édifiée entre le 12ème et la fin du 13ème siècle. L'orgue, restauré en 2005, est le plus ancien orgue jouable au monde. Au Nord, le château de Tourbillon doit sa construction, au tournant des 13 et 14ème siècles, à un évêque savoyard, Boniface de Challant, qui y établit sa résidence principale. En 1788, un incendie détruisit une partie de la ville de Sion et le Château de Tourbillon.

Die Burg ist eigentlich ein mittelalterliches Dorf, das sich an seine Kirche anlehnt, deren Glockenturm der Bergfried ist. Im Mittelalter wurden die Gebäude als Residenz für das Domkapitel genutzt. The Notre-Dame de Valère Church is a harmonious example of Roman-Gothic architecture built between the 12th and the end of the 13th century. The organ, restored in 2005, is the oldest playable organ in the world. To the north, the Château de Tourbillon owes its construction, at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, to a Savoyard bishop, Boniface de Challant, who established his main residence there. In 1788, a fire destroyed part of the town of Sion and the Château de Tourbillon.
