Shannon's Paddock straddles the boundary between Westmead and Wentworthville, which is the traditional country of the Darug people. Finlayson's Creek is a fenced off storm water drain which runs through the park. The park is frequented by many families who live in this diverse community. The playing field is often used for informal cricket games and picnics.
The name of the cache references a childrens' song. While you are unlikely to see a kookaburra in the park, it is an obvious clue to the hiding place. The cache is pram friendly, but the difficulty rating reflects the fact that it is unlikely to be accessible to wheelchair users. There are benches and a bicycle path near the cache, which is also visible from the adjacent apartment buildings. The playing field and nearby playground are especially crowded during the early evening. Stealth is required.
There is no parking within the park itself, but spots may be available on Reid St or at the shopping centre across the road.
