Geocache Description:

Dad and I decided to start a series of caches dedicated to the “dangers of the guardrails” Many times we all like to rush to get the find and during this excitement we usually for get to look before you grab, we would like through this series to create awareness of the local wildlife that usually make their home on or near the cache that is hidden within the rail.

Brown widows are also sometimes called gray widows or brown button spiders The genus name Latrodectus is from Greek root words meaning “biting in secret” On a web site on the brown widow it is stated that the name Latrodectus “refers to the painlessness of the initial bite and the fact that it often goes unnoticed until symptoms present”. In one study, 58.2% of 177 patients did not perceive pain immediately at the time of the bite. However, the initial effect of the bites of black widows varies from unnoticeable to extremely painful. Therefore, it seems equally likely that the name refers to the secretive nature of the spiders and that the victims often do not see what has bitten them.
