Location:
The Ballarat Avenue of Honour consists of 3,801 trees that are dedicated to the 3,744 local men and 57 nurses who volunteered for service during WW1.
The trees were planted between 1917 and 1919, over a distance of 22 kilometres commencing at the Arch of Victory in Ballarat.
Every tree has a plaque, originally made of gunmetal, that records their name and unit number. In 1993, The Avenue was split into two sections when the Ballarat Bypass road was made.
After much lobbying, The Avenue was reconnected when the overpass was built as part of the Western Highway duplication project.
