HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY 2021!!! Phil has seen his shadow and predicts 6 more weeks of winter in 2021!

Groundhog day is a national US holiday (no work or school off, unfortunately) that derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this February 2nd sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks. If the groundhog does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early. The groundhog day celebration is held each year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and features a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil. The picture above is of Phil. In 2021, he saw his shadow and therefore predicts 6 more weeks of winter. Although Phil's predictions have no scientific basis in meteorology or weather patterns, it is still a fun tradition that Americans observe each year.
