Geocache Description:

This is a handicap accessible geocache.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is the location of this virtual cache. The geocache is on a trail built in 1993 to provide an accessible trail for all persons to natural areas in the park. Volunteers from the Grand Traverse Audubon Club gave over 900 hours of labor building the trail, under park supervision. Originally a nature trail, interpretive signs and benches were done as an Eagle Scout project with Boy Scout Troop 165.

In 2012 the trail was paved to be part of the new bicycle trail which goes one way from the Dune Climb through the Port Oneida Rural Historical District to Bohemian Road [669], and the other way to Empire. The bicycle or multi-use trail will eventually go for 27 miles through the Lakeshore. This is a good walk to take the kids on, or a nice bike ride from the dune climb to Forest Haven Rd., near Glen Arbor (about an 8 mile round trip).

Use your National Parks Pass or Golden Pass (Age, Eagle or Access) for park entry! If you do not have that, a $15.00 Sleeping Bear Dunes' Park Pass provides unlimited use of the park for all of the occupants of a non-commercial vehicle for up to seven days.

To log this virtual cache, you must actually go to the coordinates. You may log the cache , but do not put the answer in your log. You must then send an e-mail to The Bluejay Team (bluejay1918@gmail.com) with the answer to the following questions: 1. What structure is here? 2. How many seating areas are there? Your log will stand if the answers are correct.
