Geocache Description:

I spend a lot of time in the woods. Supposedly John Muir said we should saunter instead of hike because sauntering has a religious aspect. However, like many things on social media, we should be skeptical. There was a grain of truth. Saunterers tied their wandering to the Holy Land - aller à la sainte terre. But did they have any real intention of getting there or were they just begging for support in their travels?

In 1755, Samuel Johnson (on page 1751 of his dictionary) used this definition with examples.

What would Johnson think of those of us who wander in the woods looking for containers to sign the log paper and maybe trade some items?

For a detailed discussion of the etymology of saunter see John Muir and SAUNTER
(at https://www.etymonline.com/columns/post/john-muir-and-'saunter' if the link doesn't work)

As you approach this hide, there is a long fallen tree stuck between two trees that have grown around its top. I stepped over the far end along the ground to approach the hiding spot. To find the container, look low under a low pointed somewhat flat rock on the west side of the trail maybe 15 feet from the trail. There are small sticks in front of the small lock-n-lock container hidden under the rock. The approach is level after stepping over the fallen tree.

The large obvious pile of sticks right beside the trail is not it; leave those be.

Congratulations to triguy for sauntering over to earn the First-To-Find.
