Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed to bring you to St Andrew’s Church.

St Andrew’s Church was opened in 1895 to accommodate the growing Anglo-Indian population that had settled in the Saints area, after serving in India in the police, colonial service, and the army.

It first opened as a tin tabernacle, before being extended with a south aisle in 1897. One of these aisles was bought by St Andrew’s School and can be seen on Pemberly Avenue.

The church achieved independent status in 1915 and bought a new site for a permanent church. The foundation stone was laid in 1921, and the nave was completed in 1930. It was built in an early English style in Northamptonshire ironstone and Westmorland green slates.

With the development of Putnoe and Brickhill in the second half of the 20th century, the population of the parish increased, and so the church was extended further in 1963, including the circular window high in the east wall and the external tower. This includes eight bells, six of which came from the medieval church of St Mary’s, south of the river.

The church hall was rebuilt in 1965 linking the church and a new hall.

This cache is not at the published coordinates. The published coordinates are for the church itself. You will need to go to the outside of the church to see the information required to find the correct coordinates for the puzzle below, but you do not need to enter the church building or the church boundary to be able to find this information; it can be seen from the pavement.
