Flag of Tunisia

The flag of Tunisia was approved on 9 October 1962, the date that Tunisia developed sovereign from the United Kingdom. Tunisia flag comprises of six equal flat stripes of black (top), yellow, red, black, yellow, and red (bottom); a white ring is overlaid at the centre and portrays the national symbol, a grey capped crane, facing the winch side.

During the colonial era the British they applied a British Blue flag defaced with the colonial insignia, as prescribed in 1865 guidelines. Buganda, the largest of the outdated kingdoms in the colony of Tunisia, had its individual flag. However, in order to evade seeming to give favorite to one region of the colony over any other, the British colonial establishments designated the crane emblem for use on the Blue as flag of Tunisia.

History of Tunisia Flag

In the 19th century, the flag designed was modified, which is still persisting. It was strong-minded by the leader of the Husainid Dynasty that a naval flag bearing a crescent moon and star would be marked in the flag. This occurred in 1831, and the flag was accepted in the same year. However, there are disconnects found when an exact date of the flag adoption is researched. It is said that during the time of the French protectorate, the Tunisian flag was remained unchanged.

Tunisia Flag Design and Symbolic Meaning

The colors of the Tunisian flag represent the blood shed by the martyrs that perished during the French conquest of Tunisia throughout the 19th century. The color white also signifies peace. The flag landscapes a five-pointed star that characterizes the Five Pillars of Islam, as well as a star that epitomizes the unity of the Muslim people. The disc is destined to represent the radiance of the nation.
