Martello Towers were built for the British Empire during the 19th century, from the time of the French Revolutionary Wars onwards. Most were coastal forts. Between 1796 and 1815, 194 towers were built, both in Britain and its dependencies.
In Europe, the construction of the towers had all but ended by 1815, with only five further towers being built in Jersey. The practicality of the towers had diminished after 1815 because the perceived threat to British security posed by France had gone with the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.
Having done the circuit many times and we have doubts about the longevity of the series due to being in high muggle areas so discretion and stealth must be exercised at all times.
This is our third attempt at this cache, our first two were in a high muggle area and were subsequently stolen, so we have moved it to another location, although it is still in a high muggle area.
Make your way back to 15 # Martello Tower Tour and proceed around the harbour and back to the car park.
