This is a hilly trail of just under 5 miles around the bronze age Thunders Barrow which is also one of my regular running routes. It follows the route of the now archived Jaceyb's Thunder, Thunder, Thunder cats (HO!) series published in 2010 which invited the geocacher to stand on the barrow and yell the ThunderCats chant to amuse the locals so I think we should continue the tradition!
The hides are mostly double-potted micros, please bring your own pen. There is one small cache which will take small trackables.
The trail starts from the small car park on Beeding Hill and follows the Monarch's Way up Thundersbarrow Hill as far as Southwick Hill and then back via Erringham Farm. There are no stiles but some of the paths can get very muddy after heavy rain. The final stretch is along the Mill Hill road so please be attentive of any traffic.
You get good views towards the coast and there is plenty of birdlife to see depending on the time of year. I have seen corn buntings, skylarks, stonechats, common whitethroats, kestrels, red kite, swallows, swifts, starlings and in June 2020 a red-footed falcon which had the car park filled with twitchers from far and wide! Enjoy the trail.
