Geocache Description:

Since ancient times, there have been many wells with good water quality, and the area has been called "Idota" (meaning "well field" in Japanese) because of the rice fields that used the well water.
It is known from ancient documents that the area was already called Idota in the Muromachi period (1336-1573), indicating that Idota has a long history.
In particular, Kamei Water, located only 10 meters from the designated parking lot of the cache, is said to be one of the best among the seven famous fresh water sources in the area, and is also said to be the well water that Minamoto no Yoritomo used for his childbirth in the late Heian period. It is also said to be the well water that was used by Minamoto no Yoritomo in the late Heian period (794-1185) for his childbirth.
Today, the streets of Idota are narrow and intricate, clearly different from the surrounding area. This is due to the fact that the area around the village was plotted out under the Mizuho Arable Land Clearance Project that started in the Taisho era (1912-1926), but only the area within the village was excluded from the project. Because the roads are very narrow, cars are not recommended for approaching the GZ if you are not familiar with the area.
