Cache Details
To avoid a DNF you may want to review the details of this cache before you make the trek out to find it. This cache has a very simple field puzzle that you must solve once you are at ground zero. Hence the extra difficulty rating. You must sign the log in order to count this cache as a find.
To gain access to this cache you will need to use your geosenses to figure out the combination to the padlock. You will need to pay close attention to the details to find the solution. Those with the right attributes will be able to sign their name upon the logbook pages and claim the find.
When done
Once you have finished, please return the container to the same location covering the container with wood and debris as found to ensure it stays hidden and safe from muggles for years to come.
Location
The cache is located just across the Lake Mendocino Dam keeping right to stay on the road that goes up the hill. The road you will be on is called Rafello Rd but this portion of the road is not accessible by vehicle unless you are a park ranger. Rafello Rd is short, steep’ish paved road that will take you up to the top of the hill.
My recommended approach is to stay on the road until you reach the top and level off. Just to the left is a rather defined path leading to an area where you can get spotty views of the lake. The cache is located in the base of a small group of trees. I would not recommend climbing the hillside in an attempt to take a shortcut even though it looks tempting.
Poison Oak
Finding a location in Mendocino county that does not have at least some poison oak is kind of a rarity. I did manage to find this area that had a very minimal amount of the nasty stuff. Likewise the path to get to GZ was clear with only an occasional plant on the edges. That said keep an eye out for it depending on the season.
