The original winery, American River Winery, was built in the early 1900's by the Silva Family. The original land was called Mills Township but is now part of what is known as Rancho Cordova. The orginal winery was destroyed by fire in 1919 and was rebuilt as the Silva Brothers Winery. Federal agents closed the winery in 1930 for violating the Prohibition laws. Now this building is used as office space and is widely known as "Old Mills Winery."
The old winery machinary in the parking lot is a reminder of how things used to be. The cache is not located on this machinary but take time to get a picture with this vintage grape crusher/destemmer used back in the day.
