Geocache Description:

In the 1960s, when Japan National Railways (JNR) still held a large share of the freight transportation market, slow freight trains were interfering with passenger trains around Nagoya Station, so the government decided to build a separate double-decker line to solve this problem and to separate freight and passenger trains in order to increase the volume of transportation.
The construction of the Nampo Freight Line began in 1967, and although it progressed smoothly, the rapid progress of motorization led to a shift to trucks for freight transportation and a sudden drop in demand for freight trains, and construction was halted in 1983 when it was nearing completion.
At that time, the construction cost was 34.5 billion yen, the land acquisition was 100% complete, the viaduct was 90% complete, and the only thing left to do was to lay the tracks. The long and useless viaduct was considered many times to be converted to another use, but now it has become decrepit and is just waiting for the demolition work which will require another 30 billion yen.
The cache is located at a place where you can look up at the viaduct waiting to be dismantled and removed.
