Geocache Description:

Pleasant Ridge Park has an interesting history.    This region was initially hunting ground frequented by the Cherokee (also known as Tsalagi or Aniyunwiya).     Leroy Smith was the first African-American Superintendent of a South Carolina Park.   He was hired in 1951 to develop this park and served as Superintendent until his death in 1979.   Pleasant Ridge State Park opened in 1955 and, at that time, served as the only Upstate Park for African-Americans.    It was integrated in the 1960s and became a county park in 1988.

This is a Premier Travelbug Hotel, dedicated to providing a comfortable respite for all Travelbugs.       Our hope is that there will be many visitors, so that everyone's stay will be a short one.
