EN: Memorial Cemetery and Revolution Park Dotrščina, not far from Maksimir Park, is an area that includes 365 cadastral acres (approx. 2 km,), mostly forest areas. It stretches between Maksimir and the mountain Medvednica.
On August 5, 1963, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Zagreb signed a contract with Vojin Bakić, prof. Dr. Josip Seissel, Silvana Seissel and Angela Ratković for the spatial, design and conceptual horticultural solution of the Dotrščina Memorial Park, which includes the conceptual design of the Valley of Graves, the conceptual design of the old entrance area from Svetošimunska cesta and models of two sculptures made of provisional material.
The arrangement of this park was completed in 1968, when Bakić's monument to all the victims killed in Dotrščina was finally erected on the plateau near the entrance from Svetošimunska cesta. In addition to the central crystal-shaped monument made of stainless steel, Bakić made six to seven crystal sculptures in the Valley of Graves, one of the execution sites in Dotrščina. The entire area and slopes are covered with ivy to make the victims calmer. In addition to the memorial, marble slabs with carved verses by Ivan Goran Kovačić and Jure Kaštelan have been placed along the road that goes through the Valley of Graves.
With the realization of the monument to those shot in Dotrščina, Vojin Bakić completed the purification of the monument with every superfluous detail, a process that began with the realization of the monument to Ivan Goran Kovačić in Lukovdol.
All surfaces and lines on the central sculpture in Dotrščina are reduced to a minimum and simplicity, which creates a certain play of light and shadow, depending on the angle of observation. With this sculpture, Bakić does not define to the visitor what happened here, the sculpture is only an abstract dedication to all those shot, deprived of any narration or ideology.
