History
Until the end of the 19th century, Scherpenberg and Majuba and Morena were part of the vast Woldberg Heath. It lay between Epe, Tongeren and 't Harde. The farmers from the hamlet of Tongeren used to cut sods here and graze their sheep.
This came to an end around 1850. This form of agriculture was no longer profitable because of the invention of artificial fertiliser and the import of cheap wool from Australia.
Seed production
The owners then started to forest the area. A first attempt at the end of the 19th century was not very successful. Around 1915, a much more drastic approach was taken. Almost the entire Scherpenberg was dug up and planted with Scots pine. This planting developed well and was later used for seed production.
