A Wainwright Nameless Summit.
A visit to one of the 116 Alfred Wainwright Outlying Fells, 7 of which have no name.

Wainwrights Outlying Fells are less well known than the 214 High Fells that he describes in Book 1 to 7 of his Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells series. Walks on the Outlying Fells are described in a later book published in 1974 and aimed at “old age pensioners and others who can no longer climb the high fells”. This cache takes you to the top of one the three peaks described in his walk on School Knott. There are geocaches on the other two of the peaks; School Knott and Grandsire. This cache means that you can walk in the steps of Wainwright and visit all three peaks on your geocaching trip.
Wainwright walked from Windermere station but if you have a car there are closer places to start your tour of School Knott. My preferred choice is Ings because there is a pub, a shop and a cafe for after your walk. My route from Ings is on the gallery
The peak is in an area of Lake District National Park Open Access Land as can be seen from the sign at the trail head. It is not far from the Dales Way, in an area enclosed by walls that includes Grandsire. There is a map showing the stone walls and the access points in the gallery. Use the gate at the trail head if you are coming from the Cleabarrow parking. The cache is close to the highest point you can get on this peak without crossing the wall and trespassing to get to the actual summit (see gallery) , which is called Cleabarrow Hill according to www.hill-bagging.co.uk website. There is no summit cairn but there are fine views.
