Geocache Description:

It is a display of one of the biggest sights of the Municipality of Trebnje, which was threatened by the loss of monumental features and collapse.

The renovated Jurjev domačija in the Občine is important for the whole of Slovenia, as it represents the 250-year-old heritage of a certain area and thus contributes to the stone in the mosaic of diverse architectural and cultural wealth of our country. The renovation was carried out jointly by the Municipality of Trebnje, the owner of the homestead and co-financier, and the Local Community of Knežja vas, the manager of the homestead.

Prenova domačije je obsegala sanacijo temeljev in sten lesenega in zidanega dela hiše, obnovo fasad, zamenjavo dotrajanih slamnatih streh na vseh objektih, prenovo brajde in vodnjaka ter obnovo notranje opreme. V objektih so bile zaradi kakovostne prezentacije objektov zamenjane dotrajane električne inštalacije. Hišo so restavratorji ohranili brez vodovodnih inštalacij, saj teh v hiši v tistem času ni bilo. Obiskovalci tako lahko vidijo stranišče na štrbunk.

The renovation of the homestead included the renovation of the foundations and walls of the wooden and masonry part of the house, the renovation of the facades, the replacement of dilapidated thatched roofs in all buildings, the renovation of the trellis and well, and the renovation of the interior. Due to the quality presentation of the facilities, dilapidated electrical installations were replaced. The house was preserved by the restorers without plumbing, as there were none in the house at the time. Visitors can see the toilet on the floor.

Prvi je obsegal zamenjavo slamnatih streh vseh objektov, drugi pa vsa druga dela, kamor štejejo prenove zunanjosti in notranjosti objektov ter notranje opreme, vodnjaka in brajde. Drugi sklop je obsegal sanacijo temeljev, sten, pleskanje z gašenim apnom zunaj in znotraj objekta, sanacijo razpok, mizarska in tesarska popravila, zamenjavo lesene konstrukcije brajde ali posameznih dotrajanih lesenih delov hiš.

The renovation project was divided into two parts. The first included the replacement of the thatched roofs of all buildings, and the second all other works, including renovations of the exterior and interior of the buildings, as well as the interior equipment, the fountain and the trellis. The first set was extremely demanding to carry out, as it was difficult to get a suitable contractor. The second set included the repair of foundations, walls, painting with slaked lime outside and inside the building, repair of cracks, carpentry and carpentry repairs, replacement of the wooden structure of the trellis or individual dilapidated wooden parts of the houses.

The homestead is represented by land with four buildings: a ground floor farmhouse with a black kitchen and a wooden pigsty and a toilet with a barn, a barn, a granary and a well with a scale. The entire homestead is presented as a complete unit where the caretaker can take you through the facilities and present the preserved cultural heritage and 250-year-old history. For the announced visitors, the caretaker of the homestead prepares various workshops or presentations of life in the house, a tour and presentation of the black kitchen and equipment and objects in the house. Sometimes they light a bread oven and bake bread or another dish in it.

V njej so sušili suhomesnate izdelke.

House has a brick part on the north side, which includes a "house", a black kitchen and a basement, and a wooden part (made of logs), where there is a room with a bread oven. Wood research has shown that the house was built in several stages - the oldest wood dates back to 1508, and timber for logs in 1745. In the house, visitors can see a preserved bread oven, bogkov kot, a peasant table with a corner bench, a sideboard with old peasant utensils and utensils, a wooden cupboard and a wooden floor. There is also a fully equipped pantry (bed with bedding and bedding) and the room where the last inhabitant of the house slept more than 25 years ago. The oldest part of the building is the cellar, where agricultural products, wine and work tools were stored. In the hall of the house there is a black kitchen with a pig cauldron, and above the black kitchen there is a large vault or neck, which is woven from willow (beck) rods and plastered with mud. Dried meat products were dried in it. The house has a particularly mysterious "room", as during the Second World War a chamber was rebuilt on the homestead, thus providing additional space for hiding for people and food supplies during the obligatory broadcast. The entrance to this space is through the attic and is nowhere visible from the outside. It has only a narrow rope that served to supply air to the room.

George's granary is entirely wooden (wood from nearby forests) and has some interesting construction details. Research has revealed that it was erected around 1685. Grain drawers are still preserved in it. They also rehabilitated the wooden gutters on the granary, so that it can be seen how water sometimes flowed into the well. This water was used for household and watering livestock.

George's barn has an oak main structure, the surfaces of the walls are beech. The research showed different years of individual wooden parts, indicating that they used wood that had previously been installed elsewhere. On the floor there is a permanent exhibition of old farm tools, on the lower side of the floor there are toilets for visitors. George's homestead was once enriched by a barn, a single haystack and a puddle, which were destroyed or ruined before the municipality bought the homestead.

The homestead can now host a number of events, including international workshops such as the Historical Use of Wood - the past use of beech wood and other deciduous trees as a challenge for the future, and most visits to schools and kindergartens from near and far. Every year, the homestead mows Jurjev orchard by hand, plants old varieties of fruit, prunes vines in the vine, licks and performs other peasant customs or work that would sink into oblivion without activities to revitalize them.
