The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental road for automobiles in the United States. It was established in 1913, spanning 3,389 miles, from Time Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco. In California, portions of Interstate 80, most of U.S. Route 50, and most of old U.S. Route 40 are alignments of the Lincoln Highway. The "Pioneer Route" branch of the Lincoln Highway passed from Carson City through South Lake Tahoe.
