Up to 2017 this was the Sanyuanli Community Activity Centre building, a little-used and frankly ugly concrete construction from 2009. In 2017 it was demolished and an attractive, popular outdoor activity area installed in its place. Few could argue that the new plaza, festooned with displays of cultural heritage and providing seating around the perimeter and multifunctional space in the middle, is not a huge improvement.
Before the plaza was implemented the Santai Park was cut off before reaching Xingyun Road, reducing it's continuity, connectivity and appeal. As well as opening up a welcome pedestrian connection, demolishing the older building provided a welcome hole in the dense building coverage, allowing sunlight, breezes and sightlines to enter.
The space is well-designed, with an active plaza and seating and some greenery at the edges, which is where this cache lurks.
