The monument stands on the hill Roje, in the middle of the settlement Mirna, above the road leading from Mirna to Mokronog. The area of the monument encompasses the entire Roje hill with an already arranged park design. Thus, the monument is the focal point of a small park.

The central part of the monument consists of three eleven-meter-high triangular concrete pillars, which have embossed stylized decoration on the outer sides and dedicated dedications on the inner side. In the middle, between the pillars, a metal ball is attached one meter below the top, uniting the pillars. The sphere is supposed to symbolize freedom and as such unite the beginning of the National Liberation War, the mass uprising of the Slovene nation and the victory over fascism and the post-war reconstruction of the homeland, which is supposed to be symbolized by three pillars. Next to the monument is a tomb for the fallen, and the monument is dedicated to 68 known and 38 unknown fallen fighters who lost their lives in the wider area of the Mirna Valley in the years 1941–1945.

The monument was erected in 1965 on the twentieth anniversary of the liberation. The author of the arrangement is Janez Lenassi. The monument in Roje is the central monument of the national liberation struggle in the Mirna Valley and as such is dedicated not only to the fallen who are buried in the common tomb next to the monument, but to all those who worked in the national liberation struggle in this area.

Born in Opatija, Lenassi graduated in sculpture at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts in 1956. With his sense of monumentality, he created a series of monuments, public sculptures and small sculptures. He received the Prešeren Fund Award in 1966 and the Jakopič Professional Award in 1981 for his sculptural work.

Lenassi's oeuvre was mainly determined by the realized monumental realizations, which were included in the group of abstract sculptural monuments. The opus includes more than thirty monuments and public works, among which stand out the monument to Edvard Rusjan in Nova Gorica (1960), the monument to the railwaymen on Vogar (1962), the monument to fallen fighters in Ilirska Bistrica (1965) ... One of Lenassi's last creations was the Arc de Triomphe, which was inaugurated in (October 2007) on the 16th anniversary of the departure of the last YPA soldier from the Port of Koper and the 50th anniversary of the Port of Koper.

Umrl je 26. januarja 2008. Pokopan je na piranskem pokopališču. He died on January 26, 2008. He is buried in the Piran cemetery.
S sabo imejte pisalo. Have a pen with you.
Prosim, da vrnete vsebnik točno tja, kjer ste ga našli in ga dobro ovijete, saj sem ga do sedaj našel že v napačnih cipresah, na tleh (ni bil dobro ovit okoli veje). Sedaj je vsebnik manjši in s tem manj viden.
Please return the container exactly where you found it and wrap it well, as I have already found it in the wrong cypresses, on the ground (it was not well wrapped around the branch). Now the container is smaller and less visible.
