Big Red Barn
Around 1994, when the farm work was considered to be too much, the Szczypta family arranged with Hazel Young, an early advocate of conservation in Southampton, to preserve the farm property by means of a state grant. The 103-acre site lies on both sides of Route 10 adjacent to the Manhan River and includes the red barn, old pastures, still active hay fields, and remnants of the Northampton-New Haven Canal. The Szczypta Conservation Farm is managed by the Southampton Conservation Commission for the protection of the town’s water supply and the enjoyment of the residents of Southampton.
