This part of the greenway brings you near the intersection of Spur Trail and Camp Creek Trail.
Ladybugs! They are small, often found in the garden, and bring color and joy to the Camp Creek Greenway Trail. Most ladybugs have oval, dome-shaped bodies with six short legs. Depending on the species, they can have spots, stripes, or no markings at all. Ladybugs have connected deeply with all manner of spirituality, symbolism, lore, and cultural beliefs. Its most common representation is good luck, great fortune, protection, and love.
It's easy to see that Camp Creek Greenway has been blessed with an overabundance of love as it has been introduced to more color and beauty for several years. This is all thanks to a cooperative effort by the Ladybugs Garden Club and the City of Lilburn.
With that in mind, we'd like to dedicated this geocache to the hard working efforts of the Ladybugs Garden Club.
Actually, this closely-knit group has been beautifying Lilburn since 1989. In 2010, the Ladybugs planted the first garden on the Greenway. Now, this group maintains more than a dozen mini-gardens including a wildflower garden along the Camp Creek Greenway stretching from Killian Hill Road to Rockbridge Road. It's pretty common to see the ladies tending to the gardens along the Greenway Trail.
In the early days of the Ladybugs, they had a lot of social activities, like the high tea and open house events with floral designs, pool parties, brunches, and barbecues, in addition to their studies of floral design and horticulture. These days, the Ladybugs mix the socializing with some sweat. They volunteer for hours each week maintaining the gardens at the trail, and as well as a garden they planted at the Dream House for Medically Fragile Children. They like finding ways to contribute to the community. An example is launching an educational program where they work with Girl Scouts and teachers to share their knowledge of plants and wildlife. The Ladybugs believe that there group is not just about planting something beautiful but in building the community.
You will be looking for a cache that is hidden on a bridge located on the Camp Creek Greenway trail. Please use stealth as this area can be busy at certain times of the day. You will want to bring a pen to sign the log.
While exploring the Camp Creek Greenway and enjoying the gardens, keep an eye out for the Ladybugs' trademark. How many ladybug stickers and rocks can you spot? Please share any pictures of your favorite garden, flower or ladybug on the Greenway.
