On a picnic outing with my Sweetheart and a couple of our "adopted" children we took a ramble around the area so that I could show them some of the lesser known sites (and sights), the scenic views, the "tourist" area and the prettier "old Florida" areas. On the drive, I quizzed them about what they knew of Cedar Key and its geography. I was surprised that one of them didn't even know that the town is on an island!
I wasn't surprised, though, to discover that neither of them knew that "Cedar Key" is a loose designation for about TEN "keys" (islands), not counting those of less than an acre or reachable only by boat. I shared the name of some of the keys as we passed over them. They were quite amazed!
We had a wonderful picnic, continued our exploraation, and then ended up back in Gainesville at a restaurant for dinner. Not planned, but it certainly added to a very memorable day!
