Geocache Description:

We have been exploring local places to walk along the urban Wolf River with our caching bestie, GeoCassi, and have enjoyed the newest sections of the Wolf River Germantown Greenway at Nashoba Park and the new parking area near Kimbrough. As we walked these new sections, we found a tunnel under Wolf River Blvd that takes you to a very nice primitive (dirt) trail which is the Riverwoods State Natural Area. The trail runs along a creek and toward the Germantown Golf Course. There are two parking access points - parking #1 off Kimbrough which is the most direct access to this forested trail and parking #2 off Wolf River Blvd which requires passing through the tunnel off the Greenway. Waypoints for both are included. We actually walked from Nashoba when we placed this cache, and those images are shown below. From the parking area at Nashoba Park it is just under one mile to the new parking area along Wolf River Blvd at Kimbrough (parking #2), and a little farther past this area to access the tunnel to Riverwoods State Natural area trail. With this section of the Greenway complete, it is now fully paved from Farmington Blvd in Germantown to Walnut Grove Rd in East Memphis and soon will connect to the Greenline across the Wolf River in Shelby Farms at Humphreys.

There is a concrete spillway between Nashoba Park connecting an overflow lake and the Wolf River and this section may be impassable during high water or rainy times.

The cache is a magnetic box at the entrance to the Riverwoods State Natural area near the Greenway, bring your own pen. The Riverwoods Trail is heavily forested with a short boardwalk and is about 1 mile in total length if you walk all of it. There are 2 sets of stairs to navigate the steep portions of the trail, and there's a lovely little bench to sit and have a breather. Some areas of the trail have branches and trees down, so please watch your step.
