The Poplars

The Poplars is an abandoned residence in Meadow Flat, likely given it's fitting name from the golden poplar trees surrounding it.
Not a lot is known about this property but from a google search and a chat to the neighbour Fred it seems that this was owned by the Brown family and a Sydney Morning Herald article from Friday 8th March 1935 referenced the death of Harry Elliott Brown, eldest son of the late Henry Giles and Caroline Elizabeth Brown, aged 81 years, at his residence The Poplars in Meadow Flat.
We can only speculate that there is a significant history of the property and that the property was built by hard work and hardship in the early days of settlement through the western plains. The road that is is on, now Lawson Lane was once the main road through to Bathurst. It is in very close proximity to Karoo, a large cattle stud, and many buildings surrounding it serviced the cattle stud over the years. However The Poplars looks like it might have once been an inn for weary travellers to stop off on their journey west.
Please note there is no need to go into the property, everything you need is at the gate.
