Pi on the Rocks Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Seawind: I hate to archive this brand new multi, but the rock garden clues are disappearing very quickly (it is obviously used as a trading area). So, I am archiving the multi and replacing it with a puzzle with the same name and featuring a virtual clue.

Geocache Description:

This is a two-stage multicache.  Please visit the posted coordinates for clues that will lead you to the cache.

For social distancing, please approach the posted coordinates from the beach.  Also, there is no parking in the neighborhood nearby.  It is best to park in one of the beach lots, such as at the end of Avenue U and then walk west to the dunes or beach and then south to the coordinates.

The image above is the symbol for pi.  You can read some interesting information about pi below, but for now, let's get right to the puzzle!

At the posted coordinates, look around the area for Pi on the Rocks, similar to what you see above.  Then, use the red digits to complete the north coordinate and the blue digits to complete the west coordinate, as follows:

The cache is at:

N 45 58.7??

W 123 56.1??

Can't find the Pi rock?  It may have walked off with many of the others.  Here's a backup clue:  Look under the small spruce tree on the ground around the base and near the sign.  There is an emergency clue in a small pill bottle there.  Please return the bottle under the tree.

On the way to the cache, you can stay on the dunes and beach - no need to go into the neighborhood.

Celebrate your success with a piece of pi!

That is the approximate value of pi.  Pi is a mathematical constant - a number of special interest that does not change.  It represents the number you get when you divide the distance around a circle (the circumference) by the distance across the circle (the diameter).

One of the most interesting things about pi is that the digits after the decimal go on forever.  That means your telephone number and your Social Security Number appear an infinite number of times within pi!

Mathematicians and computer scientists are interested in computing pi to as many digits as possible.  The current record is 31 trillion digits!

Those of us with less powerful computers, but MUCH better memories, compete to memorize the most digits of pi.  The record for that is 70,000 digits!  If you memorized one more digit each day, it would take you 192 years to beat the record!

Personally, I think a day of geocaching would be a lot more fun!

Enjoy the numbers, the cache and most importantly, THE BEACH!
